The CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) is an arrangement among the CARICOM Member States for the creation of a single enlarged economic space through the removal of restrictions resulting in the free movement of goods, services, persons, capital and technology and it confers the right of CARICOM Nationals to establish a business in any participating CARICOM Member States. The implementation of the CSME has been a top priority for Trinidad and Tobago and to date the Single Market component has been implemented in some twelve (12) CARICOM Member States including Trinidad and Tobago.Â

Member States
These member states are:Â
Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat (a British overseas territory in the Leeward Islands), Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Frequently Asked Questions
A foreign national wishing to work in Trinidad and Tobago must apply for a work permit through the Ministry of National Security. Each work permit is issued to a particular person for a specified period of time and for attachment to a particular company or institution, as described in the permit.Â
The Immigration Act states that a work permit must be obtained for each non-national to be employed in Trinidad and Tobago, whether for gain or not, for any period exceeding 30 days in twelve consecutive months.Â
There are two types of work permit applications:Â
- The Single Application – to be used when you request an individual work permit or work permits for fewer than 10 personsÂ
- The Group Application – to be used when you request work permits for 10 or more personsÂ
- A company in Trinidad and Tobago wishing to employ foreign expertise.Â
- An authorised provider.Â
The current processing time is 4 – 8 weeks, as of August 2018, in accordance with the Ministry of National Security.Â
A non-refundable work permit application fee of TT$600 is payable to the Ministry OF National Security on submission of the application.Â
Once approved, a Certificate Duration fee of TT$450 is required for each month that the work permit is in force. This must be paid in full before you collect the permit.Â
